Crocs x Huckberry Boat Shoe
Clogs are having a moment. Collabs are having a moment. And somehow, this Crocs x Bean Boots mashup makes both moments collide in a way that feels weirdly inevitable. What we’re looking at isn’t technically a collaboration, it’s more of a blatant riff on the Bean Boot silhouette, reimagined in Crocs form. And it actually is a Huckberry x Crocs collab. But suspend disbelief with me for a second and imagine how it could’ve happened...
...a mid-twenties designer, somewhere in Austin, vaping indoors (no cigarettes, this isn't Don Draper), surrounded by mood boards and half-baked ideas. They live in Crocs and definitely have charms on them (something my millenial brain can't wrap my head around), and yes, a mullet or a mustache (probably both). One day it hits them: what’s the most ridiculous yet somehow bizzarely logical shoe Crocs could fuse with? The Bean Boot. Waterproof, iconic, instantly recognizable. So they pitch it and their equally hipster boss nods in approval. Genius! And just like that the Croc Boot is born. Not real, but almost believable.
All joking aside, I think they’re onto something. These shoes are ridiculous and brilliant at the same time. And the public agrees. All three colorways sold out before I could even post this. But let's be fair, the coffee/cognac version is an absolute Bean Boot rip-off, in the best way. My only gripe? No sport mode strap. Would it work with the laces? Probably not. But this is my dream and I'd like one anyway.
Now for pairings. Option one: full LL Bean. Supplex sport shorts, six-inch inseam (because thighs out, naturally). Since we will be in the water with these shoes, we need a sun-protection tee with a contrasting collar that I absolutely love. And although LL Bean’s hat game is weak, the floating trucker will do in a pinch. Option two: full Crocs merch fit. A Crocs tee, Crocs hat, and the only Crocs shorts I could find. (Crocs, if you’re reading this, market opportunity!)
Here’s the thing: part of me wants to laugh this off as a joke. But another part of me thinks they're actually geniuses. Especially with that Bean Boot colorway. Now I’m just waiting for the inevitable real collab. Crocs x LL Bean x Huckberry. The internet wouldn’t survive.
