Momotaro Sashiko Indigo Dobby Jacket
Once you go raw denim, you never go back. In fact, you may find yourself only wanting to wear denim. And soon it's not just jeans. You start eyeing jackets, shirts, anything that promises that same slow-burn satisfaction of breaking in a pair of raws. But let's be honest, sometimes you want the beauty of indigo without the drawn-out break-in process. Enter indigo-dyed clothing: same character, same fades, less hassle.
Which brings us to today’s shop window: the Momotaro Sashiko Indigo Dobby Jacket. This thing oozes raw denim energy. Guaranteed monster fades that molds to your body like it was made for you (because, well, it kind of is). What do I love about it? Everything. Would I add a kangaroo pocket--my second favorite hoodie feature--in a perfect world? Maybe. Would it work? Absolutely not. And that's the thing, Momotaro nailed it. The pockets are part of the charm. It’s like a bomber and chore coat had a beautiful indigo-drenched love child. Fall outer layer, winter mid-layer, all-around staple.
Big fan of the shawl collar. It adds enough visual interest to make people take a second look. Maybe even nod approvingly. You could even get away with wearing it at a work event--assuming your workplace isn't too buttoned-up. If my own life is any indicator, most people don't care about fashion until you show up in a shawl collar. Wear one to a conference and watch the compliments roll in. Just saying.
Let’s talk fabric next. Described as a, “Sashiko Dobby weave, adding a unique and textured pattern to the fabric,” I don’t have much more to add. Just look at it. The texture is wild online, which means it's probably insane in person. This is the kind of fabric that only gets better with time. Creases, wear marks, that lived-in, slight-abused-but-in-a-good-way look that you can't fake. This is the type of jacket you invest hours and dollars in.
And now my favorite part, the pairing. Canadian tuxedo? Bold, but intriguing. If indigo-dyed boxers exist, I'd say go full commitment (if they don't someone please get on that). You can also dress it up. Chinos, oxford cloth button-down, maybe even a tie if you're feeling bold. Or take it the other direction with double-knee work pants and a tee. Personally, I like playing with contrasting styles, and shoes are my go-to move for that. Sneakers with your chinos and button-down? Stan Smiths for me. Loafers with your workwear look? Solovair loafers will do. My good friend recently put me onto Solovair, and I'm obsessed. If you're not familiar, do yourself a favor and check them out. Ridiculous value for shoes that look and feel way pricier than they are.
This jacket is a no-brainer. A forever piece and future family heirloom. The kind of thing that years from now will look even better than the day you bought it. And if that's not the goal, what even is the point?
